This! This is why I love this show. Continuity! In the past year, two of the people that formed a major part of Castle’s writing career - two people he defended up until almost the very end - have gone down in flames. And Beckett has watched that happen, has reminded him that with or without them, he’s a great writer, and more importantly, he’s more than that - he’s a good man. And in both of these scenes, *he* is the one walking in front (despite the fact that he has commented about her need to be first). She bumps his arm as if to say, “Hey, I’m here and I’m following you because I trust you to make good choices, to take us in the right direction.” That speaks volumes to me - she’s not allowing him to define himself by his past mistakes or errors in judgment, but letting him set a new course.
